The Buenos Aires Medal (Medalla por Buenos Aires) was authorized by decree of the Junta of Seville, acting in name of Fernando VII, in 1809. It was awarded to the Spanish troops who defended the city of Buenos Aires at the time of the second English invasion in July, 1809.
The Medal has two grades, i.e., Gold Medal, and Silver Medal. However, it is uncertain whether the composition denotes the rank of the recipient.
The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Ferdinand VII King of Spain and Las Indias 1808" and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “Virtue and Courage in Buenos Aires, in Potosí.”
