The Quebrachito Medal (Medalla de Quebrachito) was authorized by General Rosas on December 17, 1840. It was awarded to Uruguayan General Manuel Oribe and his troops, who defeated General Juan Lavalle and forced him to retreat of Quebrado Herrado at Santa Fe Province on November 28, 1840.
The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Medal was awarded to Chiefs, the Silver Medal was to Officers, and the Bronze and Brass Medal were awarded to enlisted men.
This Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "¡Long Live to Argentine Confederation! Brave Defender in the Deserts of Quebrachito, for the Argentine Confederation, Freedom, and American Independence,” and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “¡Death for the Savage Unitarians! November 28,1840 The Government of the Argentine Confederation to Patriotism and Courage.”
