History

The Salta Medal (Medalla la Batalla de Salta) was established in Argentina by the Assembly of the United Provinces on March 5, 1813. The Medal was awarded to General Manuel Belgrano and his troops who forced the Spanish soldiers to surrender unconditionally in Salta on February 20, 1813.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the gold Medal were awarded to Lieutenants, and the silver Medal to Sergeants.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that stands for "La Patria a los Vencedores en Salta 20 de Febrero de 1813,” which can be translated to "The Fatherland to Salta Victors February 20, 1813."
