The Order of Bernardino Díaz Ochoa was established by the Sandinista government on December 22, 1987. It was founded as the country's highest award in agriculture field, and it is conferred upon farm workers who improved agricultural productivity in the country.
The Order has three grades, two named after important Sandinistas dates, and the third called as the Sandinista agricultural cooperative. The first grade is called July 16, Agrarian Reform Day; the second grades is named September 3, Anniversary of Ochoa's death; and the third grade is called Sandinista Cooperatives of Wiwilí.
Bernardino Díaz Ochoa was a leader of rural union organizations in defense of workers' rights. He led peasants against the government during the Sandinista revolution. He was killed in action.
