History

The Order of Daniel Alcides Carrión was established in 1957 to reward Peruvian citizens, in recognition of meritorious service in social work, medicine, and science concerned with health.

The Order has four grades, these are: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, and Officer.

The Order was named in honor of Daniel Alcides Carrión (1857-85), a Peruvian medical student who fatally experimented on himself to treat the Oroya fever and Peruvian wart.

The Order's official maker is the Peruvian Mint, Lima.

The Order was designed by R. Pelletier.
