History

The Order of Barbados was established in July 25, 1980 by Letters Patent, as part of the country’s National Honours and Decorations System.

The Knight or Dame of St. Andrew of this Order is conferred by the Queen of Barbados (Queen Elizabeth II) upon individuals in recognition of exceptional achievement and meritorious service to Barbados or humanity as a whole.

When the award is conferred upon women it is called the Dame of St. Andrew.

The award is awarded by the office of the Governor-General of Barbados.
