Canadian Corps of Commissionaires Long and Exemplary Service Medal - Silver and enamels, sixteen-pointed faceted silver star, obverse illustrating the Union Jack in the centre surrounded by the inscriptions "VIRTUTE ET INDUSTRIA" and "LABOR VINCIT OMNIA" (By Valour and Industry / Work Conquers All), reverse engraved to "A. MOKES." and maker marked "S.&W.Ld." (Smith and Wesson Limited), 41.5 mm, mounted to an elaborate silver clasp trophy-of-arms comprising a crossed rifle and sable on a cannon and a fouled anchor, original ribbon with pinback, light contact, near extremely fine. Footnote: The Medal was awarded for long and exemplary service in the Corps of Commissionaires and was established in February 1859 by Captain Sir Edward Walter, with the aim of providing employment for ex-servicemen returning home from duty.
The Canadian Corps of Commissionaires Long Service Medal was instituted on August 20, 1948, and is awarded to individuals who have served 12 years in the Corps. The I Class medal appears silver.
Bars are conferred for additional periods of 5 years of service.
