History

The medal was primarily awarded to commemorate the coronation of Maharaja Ugyen Wangchuck on December 17, 1907. The medal continued to be awarded for meritorious service to the state until 1974.

This medal is also known as the Assumption of Power Medal, 1909.

The obverse of the medal features a Bhutanese inscription.
