History


This medal was established by King Norodom Sihanouk in 1948. It was conferred upon military personnel in recognition of courage during the defence of Cambodia. It is also awarded for the defence against rebellion and piracy. Under exceptional circumstances, it could be awarded to civilians.

The I Class Bronze Medal was replaced when the grades of this medal were expanded to include a I, II, and III Class.

Several ribbon decorations could be awarded with this medal:

a) Gold star - awarded for mention in dispatches at the corps level
b) Silver star - awarded for mention in dispatches at the divisional level
c) Bronze star - awarded for mention in dispatches at the brigade/regimental level
d) Bronze palm - awarded for mention in dispatches at the army level
