Kingdom of Cambodia, 1948-1970
The Kingdom of Cambodia existed from 1953 to 1970. It was a significant time in the country's history. After independence in 1953, Sihanouk, who was the head of state, tried to lead a policy of neutrality. Cambodia was initially spared by the military conflicts in Indochina, but was drawn into 1970 after a military coup in the Second Indochina War. Many people died.
The National Order of Independence was the highest title and was instituted by King Norodom Sihanouk in 1963.
