This cross was the first awarded founded by Prince Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, and it was meant to commemorate the Prince’s election as ruler, and his arrival in Bulgaria.
The cross was primarily conferred upon individuals that had participated in the election and coronation activities. It was also awarded to members of the military that were stationed at military posts in towns through which the Prince passed while travelling to Tirnovo to be sworn-in as Prince of Bulgaria.
When the cross was awarded to women it was worn on a bow ribbon.
The obverse inscription translates to "By the Will of Prince and the People".
The reverse inscription translates to "25th of July, 2nd August 1887".
