Breast Star, in silver and enamels, 58x58mm, unmarked, of very fine quality manufacture, likely Austrian, WWI period issue, extremely fine condition; very attractive and very rare star (approximately 32 awarded).
This Order was founded by a Royal Rescript and it was conferred in recognition of service to humanity and charity during the First World War.
The Order was awarded in four grades for male recipients, and three grades for female recipients. There are no design variations between the awards conferred upon men versus women. The awards for women are differentiated through the use of a bow ribbon.
On September 9, 1944, the Regency government removed the royal cypher from between the cross arms. The Order without the cypher continued to be awarded until it was officially discontinued in 1947.
The obverse inscription translates to "For Humanity 1916".
The reverse inscription translates to "Bulgaria's Gratitude".
