The Commemorative Medal of Ferdinand I was established in 1929 as an extension of the Order of Ferdinand I. It was awarded for the same reasons as the Order, that is, in recognition of contributions made to the unification of the nation in 1918. Although the Order was not awarded after 1937, the Commemorative Medal of Ferdinand I continued to be awarded in great quantities until the abolition of the Romanian monarchy in 1947.
The Bronze Medal has an obverse inscription that translates to “Ferdinand I, King of Romania.” It was awarded to military personnel with a crossed swords clasp.
