    A circular medal constructed of bronze, the obverse bears the bust of Alfonso XII encompassed by the inscription ALFONSO XII REY DE ESPANA VUELTO A LA PATRIA, the reverse bears the image of the frigate "Navas de Tolosa" with the inscription NAVAS DE TOLOSA MARSELLA 7 DE ENERO VALENCIA 11 DE ENERO, on a half blue and half white ribbon.
