A circular medal constructed of aluminum, the obverse bears the portrait of General Rafael Tristany in uniform, with the inscription GENERAL TRISTANY 1814-1899, the reverse bear the image of Infante Jaime III, Duke of Madrid, with loop for suspension on a red and yellow striped ribbon.
The medal was conferred as a commemorative award.
Rafael Tristany was born in 1814 in the Province of Lleida in Catalonia. He became a Catalan Carlist General during the Carlist Wars. Tristany fought in all three of the Carlist Wars on the side of the Carlists. After the defeat of Carlos ViII in 1876, Tristany went into exile in France, where he died in 1899.
