A Maltese cross constructed of gold and enamels, the cross arms are in red enamel with daisies in the quadrants between the arms, the obverse center bears a red enamel sacred heart on a white enamel background, encompassed by a white enamel border with the inscription LA CARIDAD 1874, the reverse bears the cipher M on a white enamel background, with a crown suspension, on a purple and white ribbon.
The Carlist Charity Cross was established by Carlos VII in 1874 in honor of his wife, Dona Margarita de Parma. Dona Margarita had been named the "Angel of Charity" as she organized hospitals during the war and was considered to be virtuous and zealous.
