First Carlist War Period (1833-1840). A white and black-enamelled four-armed cross in bronze gilt, with bronze gilt harps in each quadrant, suspended by a typical Isabel II bronze gilt crown, obverse centre depicting the sun of Solsona in bronze gilt surrounded by a white-enamelled border with the inscription “Sitio y asalto de Solsona” (Site and Attack of Solsona), reverse centre with the cipher of Isabel II on a dark blue-enamelled medallion also in bronze gilt, measuring 34.91 mm (w) x 67.88 mm (h - inclusive ring suspension), accompanied by original ribbon, with gold proof in the 6 o’clock arm, missing enamels in both central medallions, and in obverse and reverse arms, good/fine.
The Cross for Solsona was established in Spain by the regency of Maria Christina, in recognition of the courage and constancy of the military personnel under the command of General Baron de Meer, who besieged, and took control over the city of Solsona against Carlists force between 21st and 27th of July, 1838.
The Cross was authorized in Gold to be awarded to Generals and Officers, while that in Silver was awarded to enlisted men.
The Cross features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Site and Attack of Solsona," and a reverse inscription that translates to "July 23, 1838."
