The Cross for the Prisoners of 1823 was established in Spain by the regency of Baldomero Espartero on October 17, 1842. It was conferred upon military personnel who were imprisoned for refusing to enjoy the realist cause in 1823.
The Cross was authorized with two grades. The Gold Cross was awarded to Generals and Officers, while the Silver Cross was awarded to enlisted men.
The Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "Honor, Valor, Constancy 1823," and reverse inscription the translates to "1823 Prisoners."
