The Medal for Saint Sebastian was established in Spain by the regency of Maria Christina in 1841. It was conferred upon members of the Galician Army and the British Auxiliary Division Army which took part in the victory over Carlists troops in Saint Sebastian on May 5, 1836.
This Medal was authorized with two different designs. The Cross was awarded to Spanish and British Officers, while the Medal was awarded to enlisted men.
The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Saint Sebastian May 5, 1836," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "a Grateful Spain."
