A privately made troop version in delicately made in gold, composed of gold oval disc with laurels and edge crimped over rim, tower and sword insignia affixed by two prongs, measuring 20 mm (w) x 28 mm (h - inclusive of horizontally pierced integral ball suspension), 2.6 grams, extremely fine. In fine period case of issue, in leather bound case with gold embossed boarder, good/fine.
The Medal for Irún was established in Spain by the regency of Maria Christina on June 13, 1837. It was conferred upon the British and Spanish forces which took part at the recovery of the city of Irún, previously taking by Carlist supports, on May 17, 1837.
The Medal was authorized with three grades. The I Class Medal with trophy of arms suspension was awarded to Officers, the II Class Medal was awarded to NCOs, while the III Class Medal without enamels was awarded to the troops.
The Medal features a plain reverse.
