The Cross for the Battle of Talavera was founded in Spain by the Council of the Regency on December 8, 1810. It was awarded to Spanish and British forces, led by Sir Arthur Wellesley, who defeated French troops at the Battle of Talavera on July 20, 1809.
The Cross was conferred upon Generals and Officers.
It is possible that a non-enameled Cross has been authorized, however this information has not been confirmed.
The ribbon consists of a black, and red stripes that symbolize the countries involved in the battle.
Contrary to clockwise direction, the inscription on the obverse stands to "Ta-la-ve-ra," and the reverse inscription stands to "Talavera- 20 de-de 1809-Julio." The inscriptions are split on each arm.
