History

The Cross of the Third Army was established in Spain by King Ferdinand VII on March 31, 1815. It was awarded to the military personnel of the Third Army in recognition of bravery and distinguished services rendered during the defense of Cadiz and the Island of Leon during the War of Independence.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that could be translated to "Winners in the Straits of the Pyrenees," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Third Army."
