    Physical Description and Item Details

. A grouping of three wound medals, constructed of a silver-coloured war alloy, depicting the rightward facing bust of Karl, circumscribed “CAROLUS”, engraver marked “R. Placht”, the reverse inscribed “LAESO MILITI” and dated “1918”, on a loop for suspension - each accompanied by a ribbon, being for Two Wounds, measuring approximately 37-38 mm in diameter, in overall very fine condition.

    History

This medal was founded to recognize members of the armed forces that were injured or became seriously ill as a result of their wartime service during World War I.

The ribbon features 1-5 red stripes. The number of red stripes on the ribbon indicates the recipient's number of wounds.

The ribbon had no red stripes when the recipient was invalidated out of active combat due to the severity of their wounds, or due to serious illness.
