(Kriegserinnerungsmedaille). A round bronze medal; the obverse depicting an Austrian eagle supported on an Austrian coat of arms, circumscribed “FÜR ÖSTERREICH” (Germany - For Austria); the reverse dated “1914-1918” within an oak wreath; suspended from its original tri-fold ribbon; measuring 36.11 mm in diameter; in overall near extremely fine condition.
This medal was conferred upon all Austrians that rendered service during World War I.
When the medal is awarded to women it is worn on a bow ribbon.
On November 10, 1933 crossed swords were decreed for recipients of the medal who has served on the front, were a POW, and were wounded during active service. These crossed swords were added to the medal's ribbon.
