History


The Medal for Family Merit was established by Royal Decree on November 17, 1956. It was awarded to African mothers from the Belgian Congo or Ruanda-Urundi in recognition of raising a large family. It ceased to be awarded in the Belgian Congo on June 30, 1960, and in Ruanda-Urundi on July 1, 1962.
