Also known as the "Medal for Noble Deeds", and established by King Christian the VII, this medal was awarded to recognize individuals who have demonstrated acts of outstanding, courageous behavior and who have put themselves in danger. When services that were rendered were not completely courageous, the medal may have been awarded without a ring so the recipient could not wear the award, this indicated he did not have permission; since 1845 the medal has always been conferred with permission.
This medal was awarded in gold and in silver until the year 1887, and since, has only been awarded in silver.
The rim of the medal is engraved with the recipients name.
This award is very rare. Between the years 1972 to 2015, only eight medals have been awarded.
