July medal, in silver with enamel, engraved on the edge "given by the king of the french", surmounted by an articulated wall crown, fluted ring, without ribbon.
The July Medal was created to recognize acts of courage during the Revolution of 1830 that did not merit the July Cross. A total of 3763 Medals were awarded.
The obverse inscription translates to “To the Defenders of a Grateful Nation,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Fatherland, Liberty 27 28 29 July 1830,” and the inscription on the rim translates to “Given by the King of the French.”
There are also “Medals of the Discontented” which differ in inscription. These versions replace the dedication on the rim with “Given by the Nation.”
