The French Red Cross (Croix-Rouge Française) was officially formed in 1940 by order of Marshal Philippe Pétain when the Société de Secours aux Blessés Militaires (SSBM), the Association des Dames Françaises (ADF), and the Union des Femmes de France (UFF) were merged into organization.
There are three versions of this Medal: the first version is a round medal. The second and third versions are in the form of crosses, with the second having pierced decorations between the arms and the third version having solid decorations. These decorations are composed of “CRF,” initials for the Croix-Rouge Française.
