Physical Description and Item Details


A Maltese cross constructed of gold and enamels. The arms of the cross are in white enamel with a gold border. The obverse centre bears a circular medallion of blue enamel with the inscription "DEM VERDIENST" (for merit), encompassed by a border with green enamel laurel leaves. On a loop for suspension. Measuring 41mm.

History


This Order of Merit was founded by Duke August Christian Friedrich of Anhalt-Köthen on August 15, 1811. It was awarded to recognize outstanding service to the sovereign and state. The Order may never have been awarded.
