A circular medal constructed of bronze. The obverse bears the inscription "DEM TAPFEREN BEFREIUNGS HEER 1849" (to the brave liberation army) within a laurel wreath encompassed by the inscription "LEOPOLD GROSSHERZOG VON BADEN" (Leopold Grand Duke of Baden). The reverse bears a sword and palm fronds. With a horizontally elongated loop for suspension. On a yellow ribbon with blue stripes. Weighing 20 grams. The "K" on the obverse of the medal is the mark of Ludwig Kachel.
The Commemorative Medal was founded by Grand Duke Leopold on August 29, 1849, and it was conferred upon military personnel who helped suppress the 1849 Baden Revolution. The medal was awarded to Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and Enlisted Ranks.
