Physical Description and Item Details


A smooth oval medal with a raised border, constructed of silver gilt. The obverse features the right-facing portrait of Duke Carl Anton in uniform with a Pour le Mérite, with the circular inscription ‘FÜRST CARL ANTON VON HOHENZOLLERN’. Over his right shoulder is the stamp cutter’s signature ‘SZIRMAI’. The reverse features a wreath made up of oak leaves on the left and laurel on the right, tied at the bottom by a ribbon, with the inscription ‘1811 7 SEPTEMBER 1911’ in the centre. On a loop for suspension, on a black ribbon with broad silver side stripes and a narrow silver centre stripe. The loop is stamped ‘21’.

History


The Carl Anton Commemorative Medal was instituted by Prince Wilhelm of Hohenzollern on September 7, 1911, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his grandfather Prince Carl Anton’s birthday.

The Gold Medal was conferred upon members of the Prince's family and other members of the aristocracy.
