History

The Commemorative Campaign Medal, 1808-1815 was founded by Grand Duke Paul Friedrich and was conferred upon individuals who served in the Rheinbund-Kontingent from 1808 to 1812. It was also awarded to soldiers who served in the Kontingent from 1812 to 1815, regardless of whether they ever saw battle. The Rheinbund-Kontingent fought in the Napoleonic Wars.

The silver bar was founded by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II on 17 April, 1863, to commemorate the veterans of the 1813-1815 campaigns.
