History

The Friedrich Franz-Alexandra Cross was founded by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV and Grand Duchess Alexandra, and was conferred upon individuals who worked with charitable organizations and provided altruistic services to the public.

The cross could also be awarded to civilians who helped care for sick and wounded soldiers during the First World War.

When the cross was awarded for wartime merit, it was worn on a ribbon with maroon and green exterior stripes, with a light blue centre stripe.
