History

The Reserve Long Service Decoration was originally founded by King Wilhelm I in a single class.

The decoration was amended by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in 1842 to include a II Class Bar. The bar was redesigned by King Wilhelm II into a II Class Medal on July 4, 1913.

The II Class Bar was conferred upon all officers, doctors with the rank of officer, non-commissioned officer, and soldiers for serving in active duty for a minimum of three months, or for participation in a military campaign.

The II Class Bars could also be manufactured privately with full metal compositions.
