Physical Description and Item Details


A Maltese cross constructed of war alloy; the obverse inscribed “Für Kriegshilfsdienst”, with an oak wreath on the bottom half of the cross; the reverse with the Royal Monogram of “Wilhelm Rex”; with double loops for suspension, with some of its period original ribbon, weighing 36.0 grams, mounted onto a medal bar, with a gray wool backer and a horizontal pinback.

History


The War Aid Merit Cross, 1916 was established by King Wilhelm II during the First World War and conferred upon individuals who performed in patriotic war service aid, without regard for rank or status.
