Physical Description and Item Details


A smooth circular medal with a raised border, constructed of bronze. The obverse features the doubled and mirrored monogram ‘E’, topped by a crown. The reverse features a laurel wreath tied by four ribbons, with the dates ‘1870’ and ‘1871’ in the centre, divided by a decorative line. On a loop for suspension, on a red ribbon.

History


The Campaign Medal for 1870/71 was founded on March 11, 1871 by Duke Ernst I. The medal was conferred upon immediate members of the duke’s entourage who accompanied him during the war.

Only 50 examples of the medal were minted.
