Germany, Third Reich. An Air Protection Honour Decoration, II Class with Case
(Luftschutz-Ehrenzeichen II. Klasse mit Etui). Instituted 30 January 1938. (1938-1945). Constructed of aluminum, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised central mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE IM LUFTSCHUTZ” (“FOR MERIT IN AIR PROTECTION”), the reverse bearing a raised central date of “1938”, unmarked, measuring 38.74 mm (w) x 43.86 mm (h), weighing 11.0 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of grey card stock, the lid bearing an inscription of “LUFTSCHUTZ-EHRENZEICHEN 2. STUFE” (“AIR PROTECTION HONOUR DECORATION 2ND CLASS”), measuring 45 mm (w) x 98 mm (l) x 18 mm (h), some material fatigue is evident to the case, in overall near extremely fine condition.Germany, Third Reich. The Air Defence Honour Badge was founded by Adolf Hitler on January 30th, 1936. The Badge was established in two classes and was conferred upon members of the National Air Raid Protection League (Reichsluftschutzbund), the Security and Assistance Service (Sicherheits und Hilfsdienst), the Factory Protection Police (Werkschutz), and the Order Police (Ordnungspolizei) who participated in the protection and defence of the German population during air raids.
The decoration was awarded to both men and women.
The I Class Cross was conferred for especially exceptional service, while the II Class was awarded for meritorious and honourable service.
