History

Special rank insignia for the BDM leader ranks of Gruppenführerin and above were introduced in 1938. It is a cloth shield showing an eagle with spread wings. The backing is either in dark blue or in white, for the blue and the white jacket, respectively.

Leaders of units carried their unit numbers above the eagle.
Reserve Leader insignia have a silver bar with black top and bottom edges that is placed horizontally behind the shield.
Leaders on the Staff of a Gebiet (district) or of the Reichsjugendführung (Reich Youth Leadership, RJF) had gold-coloured eagles and gold-coloured borders.

In 1943, a restructuring took place. The term Gau was discontinued.
The rank of Gebietsmädelführerin was established. They wore a gold-coloured eagle inside a gold-coloured border of oak leaves.
