Constructed of red cotton, the exterior bearing a white cotton disc measuring 88 mm in diameter, overlaid by a machine-embroidered golden-brown SA Sports Badge-style insignia consisting of a mobile swastika overlaid by a sword, set within a circular oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 220 mm (w) x 110 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
The SA (Sturmabteilung, storm detachment) was established in 1921 as a paramilitary protection squad of the NSDAP. The members of the SA were tasked with protecting party leaders at political rallies and meetings from the paramilitary forces of the opposing political factions. The SA was first utilised on November 4, 1921 at a meeting held in Munich’s "Hofbräuhaus" beer hall. The organisation was banned after the failed putsch in 1923 and was reactivated in February 1925.
The SA Wehrmannschaften Armband was worn by members of SA homeland militias. These were initially responsible to give young SA members their first pre-Army military training, and later served as a reserve for older SA members who weren't eligible for Army service any longer.
The armband was worn until July 1, 1942, after which the regular SA armband was instead encouraged for wear. Afterwards, the Wehrmannschaften armband was still worn with civilian clothing.
