History

The Volunteer Medal (1914-1918) was established by Grand Duchess Charlotte by Grand Ducal Decree on May 10, 1923. It was awarded to all Luxembourgian volunteers who served in an Allied army during the First World War between August 2nd, 1914, and November 11, 1918. It was also awarded posthumously.

The Bronze Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Luxembourg, Virtue," and a reverse that bears the names of battles in which Luxembourgian volunteers participated.
