The Commemorative Medal for the Enthronement of Prince Rainier III was awarded in commemoration of Prince Rainier III's ascension to the Monegasque throne.
Prince Rainier III ascended to the throne on May 9, 1949, and ruled Monaco for 56 years. He is well known for marrying American Actress Grace Kelly in 1956, and for expanding Monaco's economy beyond the Casino Gambling industry. Prince Rainier III died April 6, 2005 and was succeeded by his son, Albert II.
The Silver Medal was awarded to other ranks in the Monegasque police force (la Sûreté Publique) with a minimum of 5 years of service. It features an obverse inscription that translates to "Rainier III, Prince of Monaco," and the reverse inscription translates to "November 19, 1949."
