There is a second medal that may be encountered that features a drop of blood on the obverse and the Monegasque coat of arms on the reverse. The obverse inscription of this medal translates to "National Merit for Blood," and the reverse inscription translates to "Principality of Monaco, Gift of Blood." More research is necessary to verify whether this an an unofficial or official version.

History

The National Blood Merit Medal was established by Ordinance on July 30, 1993. It is awarded to Monegasque citizens in recognition of dedication to donating blood.

From 1993-2003, the II Class Medal was awarded for 60 donations, but since 2003, it has been awarded for 50 donations.

The II Class Medal features a portrait of Rainier III on the obverse and a drop of blood on the reverse. The obverse inscription translates to "Rainier III, Prince of Monaco," and the reverse inscription translates to "National Merit for Blood."
