History

The Commemorative Multinational Peace Operations Medal was established by Royal Decree in 1982 but was later replaced by the Commemorative Medal for Peacekeeping Operations in 2001. It was awarded to military personnel or members of the government in recognition of at least 3 months of service with the Multinational Force.

This Medal was awarded on a ribbon that was unique to each recognised mission. The following missions have unique ribbons: Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Yugoslavia, Albania, Georgia, and Moldova. The mission in the Persian Gulf was distinguished by a "GOLF" clasp, the mission in Sinai was distinguished by a "SINAI" clasp, and special missions were distinguished by an "M" clasp.

The Bronze Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Unity Makes Peace."
