History


The Breda Medal was established by William VI, Prince of Orange-Nassau, and future King William I, in 1815. It was awarded to members of the Breda militia in recognition of meritorious service against the French occupation of the Kingdom of Holland.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription translates to "For Civilian Faith and Courage," and a reverse inscription that translates to "From the Sovereign Prince of the Netherlands, to the Officers of the Breda Militia." A total of 20 were awarded.
