History

The Hague Volunteer Medal was awarded to volunteers who assisted the Dutch armed forces against French occupation in The Hague on November 17, 1813. It was officially recognised as a military decoration in 1817.

There are two versions of the Silver Medal that differ in engraving. The first features the left sword crossed over the right sword, and the second features the right sword crossed over the left sword. Both feature an obverse inscription that translates to "For the Fatherland and Orange." Approximately 400-500 were awarded.
