The Military Coast Guard Long Service Medal was instituted by Royal Decree in 1903, but it was suppressed and replaced by the Naval Coast Guard Long Service Medal in 1926.

The Gold Medal features a reverse inscription that translates to "For Loyal Service, Military Coast Guard."

There may be additional versions that vary in inscription.
