A 1939 Dutch Mobilization War Cross - Red bronze, 41.8 mm, original ribbon, gilt wear evident, light contact, better than very fine.
The Mobilization War Cross was established by Royal Decree in 1948. It could be requested and purchased by Dutch soldiers and veterans who served for six months between April 6, 1939, and May 20, 1940, or between August 30, 1939, and September 3, 1945, on a Dutch boat or aircraft. The Cross was also awarded in absence of these services requirements to those who made significant contributions to the Netherlands and its military operations during the Second World War.
Requests were received by the "Commission on the Mobilization War Cross" in the Hague. Recipients of the Commemorative War Cross were not eligible for the Mobilization War Cross. Applications were closed as of November 15, 1951.
The Bronze Cross features a reverse inscription that is an excerpt of the Dutch National Anthem "DEN VADERLANT GHETROUWE" which translates to "Loyal to the Fatherland."
