History

The Proficiency Medal of the Royal Dutch East Indies Army was established by the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies in 1919, but it was permanently discontinued when the Royal Dutch Indonesian Army was disbanded in 1951.

It was awarded to members of the Royal Dutch Indonesian Army in recognition of completion of athletic proficiency tests.

The Bronze Medal was awarded for the completion of one proficiency test. A bronze “2” clasp could be awarded for the completion of 2 tests. The obverse inscription translates to “For Proficiency,” and the reverse acronym stands for “Nederlands Indisch Leger” (Dutch Indonesian Army).

There may be additional versions of the Silver Medal that differ in size.
