History

The Metal Cross (1830-1831) was established by Royal Decree in 1831. It was awarded to Dutch military personnel who participated in the 10 Days’ Campaign in Brussels in the same year and to all Dutch military and naval personnel who served in campaigns from 1830-1831. The awards were manufactured from two cannons that were captured at Hasselt, and for this reason, the Cross is sometimes referred to as the Hasselt Cross.

The Bronze Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to “Loyalty to the King and the Fatherland.” There are two additional versions of the Bronze Cross that differ in engraving and inscription. The Bronze Cross (with honourable mention) has a surmounting oak wreath, and the Bronze Cross (for Volunteers) features an additional inscription on the reverse.

There may be additional versions of the Bronze Cross that vary in size or composition.
