Medal. Bronze. 89 mm. By A. Griliches, Jr. On the Miraculous Survival of the Imperial Family after the Railway Crash, 1888. Diakov 1010.1, Sm 958. Alexander III with members of his family standing, signed on the ground line /Angel standing ¾ left blessing Russia kneeling before him, the derailed train and survivors in the exergue. Milk chocolate-brown.
This medal was awarded to commemorate the miraculous preservation of the Imperial Family.
The inscription on the obverse translates to "In Commemoration of the Miraculous Saving of the Czar's Family. October 17 1888" and on the reverse "Your (Guardian) Angel Watching Over You Will Protect You Wherever You Go."
